Denizli lies within the borders of Antique Phrygia, one of Anatolia’s major wine countries to this day, located on the crossroads connecting the most important port cities of Hellenistic times to Central Anatolia when in the backdrop of Anatolia’s geographic history. The wine from the grapes and textiles from the wool, linen, and silk grown in the fertile farm soil is globally traded and built a reputation. Denizli is still an important wine country in Turkey, the hometown of Çalkarası, one of the oldest types of grape known in Anatolia. The growing of grapes with a winemaking focus has gone further in the townships of Bekilli, Güney, Çal, and surrounding areas, and winemaking in family establishments has become a large-capacity sector.
